Objectives
- To develop an awareness, understanding and appreciation for the natural history and cultural diversity of Belize.
- To cultivate and exercise curiosity, critical reasoning and evaluation skills
- To provide and guide learning experiences using observation techniques, social skills and scientific methods
- To develop a sense of adventure, respect, and global understanding in a cross-cultural, outdoor, natural learning environment
Status Report
- Belize's first recognized private protected area (1070 acres) and environmental education outdoor learning center
- Fully endorsed by the Belize Ministry of Education, Belize Ministry of Natural Resources and Belize Tourism Board
- Residential and day-use programming based on experiential learning, cross-cultural exposure and hands-on teaching
- Programs utilize the watershed continuum concept and include representative field sites in the Maya Mountains, Sibun Karst Hills, tropical pine savanna, coastal lagoons and mangrove forests, Caribbean islands and the Belize Barrier Reef System
- Facilities include Field Research Station with library and private rooms, full kitchen and dining hall, bunkhouses, campground, showers, tropical fruits orchard, river access, and all the gear necessary to properly outfit student field study and research programs
- Community-based Village Homestay Programs integrated with field natural history to compliment cultural learning program components
- Affordable group program costs, student internships and volunteer programs available for individuals
