Monkey Bay Wildlife Sanctuary came into being through a sincere attempt at private land stewardship over concern for tropical biodiversity maintenance and protection. The 1070-acre private protected area serves as a biological corridor spanning the Sibun River Watershed and linking with Monkey Bay National Park and Manatee Forest Reserve. Five acres of the sanctuary is dedicated to human settlement, where our staff and guests reside in relative harmony with the surrounding savanna landscape. Facilities are designed in such a way to complement the function of the sanctuary and corridor, while providing an alternative lifestyle experience for guests and students alike. The mood is tranquil and timeless and attracts a provocative crowd of experimenters in international living. Local community members are right at home along with our foreign guests.

Sustainable Living
In keeping with our philosophy we experiment with appropriate technology. Our human waste is decomposed in a biogas digester that produces fertilizer for our orchard and methane fuel used to supplement kitchen cooking fuel. All of our water is derived from rain catchments and storage. Most of our building materials are derived from local sources, utilizing renewable forest products like thatch leaf, pine timber, and pimento stick.
